"What is United Way?"
United Way is the largest non-profit, volunteer driven, private fundraising organization for health and human care services
in our communities.

"Why should I give to United Way; I'm not going to use their services?"
It's possible that you might never use the United Way services, but statistics show that you or a member of your family probably have or
will use United Way services at some point in your lives. United Way funded agencies provide services to all residents, strengthening
quality of life. This charitable effort offers the opportunity to help with so many of our community's critical problems. United Way
agencies provide crisis-based services every day.

Tel-Help is a free telephone service that matches people in need with the organizations that can help. Those outside the metro Detroit
area, contact your local United Way organization.

"Where does my contribution go?"
Money that's raised locally, stays local. Your contribution is used to fund the United Way organization for the community in which
you live.

"Is my contribution used effectively?"
Each United Way community program identifies problems and concerns in the community and then presents its funding needs to the volunteer
allocation committee. These volunteers, representing corporate, labor and community sectors, then review and make recommendations on
each request based upon our community-wide assessment.
More than 90 cents of every dollar helps find solutions to the existing and emerging community needs.

"How can overhead costs be so low?"
Thousands of volunteers assist the United Way in helping those in need.

"Why should I give through pension deduction?"
Pension deduction makes it easy for retirees to give to their community. It helps keep administrative costs low,
assuring your charitable dollars are invested wisely.

"I'm already donating to the United Way through pension deduction. What happens if I don't make a new pledge
this year?"
If you do not make a new pledge this year, your current contribution will continue to be deducted from your
pension next year.

"Instead of having monthly contributions deducted from my pension check, can I send in a personal check?"
Yes, you may make annual contributions by sending in a check or money order, made payable to the "United Way",
along with the Charitable Contribution Form.

"Can I change my pledge any time?"
Yes, you may change your pledge at any
time by completing and mailing in a newCharitable Contribution Form. Please allow one month for the change to become effective.
